Cockeysville, MD (October 9, 2026) – Altruix will begin offering WELTRUZA™ (olanzapine) for extended-release injectable suspension once commercially available, which Teva anticipates in the coming weeks. Teva Pharmaceuticals’ newly FDA-approved treatment for adults with schizophrenia is the first and only once-monthly subcutaneous injectable formulation of olanzapine. Our team is ready to help providers navigate medication access, insurance coverage, and pharmacy coordination ahead of availability.

A New Long-Acting Option from Teva

WELTRUZA uses Medincell’s proprietary SteadyTeq™ technology for sustained olanzapine release. Approval was supported by the Phase 3 SOLARIS trial, which demonstrated symptom improvement, reduced illness severity, and improved personal and social functioning. Its systemic safety profile was consistent with oral olanzapine.

Once-Monthly Administration

WELTRUZA is administered as a monthly subcutaneous injection and requires no loading doses, oral supplementation, or required post-injection observation period. Available monthly strengths correspond to these daily oral olanzapine doses:

  • 318 mg: 10 mg daily
  • 425 mg: 15 mg daily
  • 531 mg: 20 mg daily

Providers should follow the full prescribing information for patient selection, dosing, preparation, and administration. For more information about WELTRUZA, see the full Prescribing Information, including Medication Guide and Boxed WARNING, or talk to your healthcare provider.

Preparing for Availability

Altruix is preparing to offer WELTRUZA upon commercial availability, which Teva expects in the coming weeks.

Providers can submit prescriptions to Altruix now. Our pharmacy teams will begin prescription processing, review insurance coverage, and initiate prior authorization when required. We will communicate anticipated availability to prescribers and help address reimbursement, insurance, and other access barriers as they plan treatment initiation.

Safety Considerations

Reported adverse events included weight gain, somnolence, headache, constipation, and injection-site reactions. Metabolic changes, including hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and clinically significant weight gain, may occur and warrant appropriate clinical monitoring.

The boxed warning addresses increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis; WELTRUZA is not approved for that population. Whether post-injection delirium/sedation syndrome (PDSS) can occur with WELTRUZA is unknown.

Providers should review the complete warnings, precautions, and Medication Guide before use.

Pharmacy Support for Your Practice

Altruix supports behavioral health care teams with pharmacy coordination, insurance and prior authorization assistance, and medication delivery. Our team is ready to answer questions and coordinate the pharmacy steps involved in starting WELTRUZA treatment.
